Week - 4 Kadin
Hi, my name is Kadin. I am the level designer and environment artist for our project. It is my turn to talk about what we have done so far on our project. In this post I will talk about the level design and the plans we will be moving forward with.
The initial plans we had were to have two different levels. One level was an open world, and the other was a racetrack. When we discussed it more in later weeks, we decided to mainly focus on the dinosaur level and to scrap the racetrack. For our dinosaur level we went with an older, retro, pixilated theme. We wanted it to feel different from the apartment that the player will walk through at the very beginning.
The level we created before for Rexhunt was a big open world level with a volcano on the side of the island. There were three different biomes with this map lay out. The first biome was a dense forest with two different types of trees and dense foliage on the ground. The second was a sand beach area that did not have anything except a few palm trees to add a little bit of open space to the map. The third biome had the volcano in the corner and was covered in jagged rocks and other rocky materials. We changed this map because when people played our level we learned that they were not having much fun because of how big the map was.

New Level
Our Rexhunt level has four different biomes. It has a grassy field biome, a sand biome, a forest biome and a volcano biome. We created our map this way so the player would have a sense of adventure fighting dinosaurs in each of the different biomes.
The grassy field biome is going to have different green grasses, scattered rocks, and scattered trees in the field. The textures will mostly consist of a pixelated grass material with a pixelated gravel and a dirt material. We want the players to feel like they are in an open area.
The sand biome will consist of palm trees, rocks, and a lot of sand. The material will mostly consist of pixelated sand with our gravel and wet sand material. We want the player to feel like they are in a desert.
The forest biome will consist of a lot of trees with shrubbery as well, to make it denser. We want this area to have less visibility for the players to feel more closed in and have less ability to see the dinosaurs around them. The texture in this biome is the grass texture with the dirt and gravel.
The volcano biome will be empty with a lot of hazards the player will need to avoid. The material will be mostly a rock texture mix with our gravel texture. There will also be lava on a lower area surrounding the rocky gravel textured island. In this lower area there will be a lava texture that will hurt the player.
Overall, this is how we planned our level and what we plan on doing with it going forward.
Thank you.
