Week 5 - kadin

Hi, my name is Kadin. I am the level designer and environment artist for our project. It is my turn again to talk about what we have done so far on our project. In this post I will talk about the lighting, glitch environment, and the credits.

Lighting

Creating the lighting for the apartment was my job. After talking with my teammates, we decided we wanted to make the apartment feel warm but somber due to the storyline. I wanted to play with the shadows but also keep the rooms bright enough for the player to see everything. I also did not want it to feel like a horror game.

Glitch Environments

The team wanted to add the glitch effect that is on our dinosaurs to the environment as well. I was given a glitch material that one of my team members made. I placed different planes around the environment and added the material to them. This made the environment fit with the dinosaurs better. I changed some of the materials on trees that were created by one of our modelers and placed the trees around the environment so they would glitch as well. I placed different sized trees and rocks in clusters. Some of them floated and some did not but it allowed me to play with the effect more.

Credits

I was tasked with creating the credits simply because I enjoy creating credits for games. I wanted to play with the theme of the apartment being an older environment. I took inspiration from an older family member who had the letters of the alphabet on their refrigerator. I have memories of spelling my name and different words on that refrigerator. Since there is a refrigerator in the apartment, I thought it would be a good idea to recreate that memory. It also works well with our theme and the aesthetics of the game.
