Week 07 - Michael
Hey all!
Michael here! It’s time for my 2nd blog post! Our game is coming along great. But creating a game takes more than just making a game. Weird right? I’ll explain.
Most of the modeling has been done for some time now so I’ve taken a lot of new roles these past few weeks regarding our project and a lot of it had to deal with presenting. I tasked myself with the creation of our video, had T-shirts made, and created a poster for our team. A lot of people don’t think about these kinds of things but I’m anxious enough as it is to present so I need every single bit of confidence to present.
Let’s start with the video creation. I wanted to share work from all avenues of our great talent on this team. There are so many wonderful aspects of hard work in every shot that I added in our trailer. It starts in the house where you have a clear view of the intro scene. You’ll notice Chads voice and Kadin’s light shining through as well as my models. I really loved Chads rifle that he made so I made sure to include that as well. I wanted to share more of Owens animation for the laptop but I wanted to keep the time short, so I included a short segment of it. Then you’re transported into RexHunt which I’m sure will confuse a bunch of people which I’m really excited about! I’m confident that the narration from Chads voice will guide the audience and show them that this is two games in one! I also made sure to keep Flynn’s wonderful desktop UI in there because it’s such a gem, we got complements on it all throughout this project. The music will fade a bit and show off more of Kadin’s landscape creations and then as the music picks up we show off bits of the T-rex boss. Eric worked hard this past week, tweaking the AI for the boss and it shows. I also recreated the textures for the Boss to make it more obvious that it’s a glitched dinosaur.
Here's the link to the video for you to check out:
Secondly, I had T-shirts made! I used to work at a promotional company awhile back, so I contacted them for help. Unfortunately, they couldn’t just get me 7 t-shirts which was quite upsetting, but I prevailed. I found it quite difficult to source a local T-shirt company that would take my money! But I found a company called Big Frog. They were wonderful in getting me T-shirts before our deadline of the 21st. And here’s what they’ll look like:
Lastly, I’d like to quickly talk about the poster. I actually made a poster a couple of weeks back, but the game had changed so much since then that the original poster wouldn’t work with our game at this point, in fact the landscape in the original poster we don’t even have anymore. I had to take that old template and recreate it. I went into Unity and had to manually move each of the dinosaurs to get into a frame where it would look good for a 18x24 shot. Once I had that down it was a matter of making it professional. Since our theme is themed towards an older era I decided to use the original T for Teen logo that you don’t see much anymore. The new Pegi-18 logo just wouldn’t fit the theme anyway. Chad is also 3d Printing a Dinosaur for our audience to hand out as well so I wanted to include that in our poster. But I’m quite proud of how it came out.
Here's a picture of the old one:
And the new one:
I love how the new one looks, the original one I’ll admit has better colors but the new one just feels more professional.
But that’s my week! Next week we will be presenting. Wish us luck!
