Week 9 - Owen

Hello everyone! Owen here again to deliver an update on how the team's presentation went.

Preparation for Presentation

Going into our presentation day, we had a few key things we wanted our booth to include. The first thing we wanted was some kind of 3D-printed model from our game. Spearheading that operation was Chad with his multiple 3D printers. Chad ran through a couple of iterations of a T. rex model but ultimately couldn't get his printer to work properly, so we decided to pivot to Michael for our model. Michael works at a 3D printing company, and it just so happened that his boss had a few spare T. rex skull models that would work perfectly for our table. Once we got our hands on those, we began work on our second checklist item: a challenge for the players with rewards. The challenge was simple: play and beat the game without dying. The first five to complete the challenge would win a T. rex skull. Michael created a really nice poster for RexHunt that advertised our challenge. The final checklist item was decorating the booth so that it would catch eyes and attract people to come play our game. Leading this task was Kadin, who bought all kinds of vines and fake grass to give our booth a jungle theme to match RexHunt.

Now that we've covered the preparation for the big day, it's time to talk about how it went.

Setting Up for the Event

Doors opened for us at 8:30, so Kadin and I got there around 8:00 to claim our table and start setting up. The rest of the team trickled in throughout the day. Flynn and Chad brought their PCs, and Michael brought our poster and skulls. Once everyone was there and our table was set up, we were ready for the crowd.

Presentation

Once people started coming in, we were in business. Immediately, attendees responded to our challenge, and within the first hour, we had our five winners. After chatting with our players for a few hours, it was time for the presentation. Chad led our presentation, introducing the team and talking about the FX and character modeling he worked on. Following Chad was Michael, who walked through his modeling process. Then we had Flynn talk about our backend programming and the lighthouse system. Kadin went next and talked about his level design. After him, Eric talked about programming enemy behavior, with a few jokes for the audience. I wrapped it up with the rigging and animation portion. Overall, our presentation went smoothly, and we covered everything in a timely manner.

I think I speak for all of Team Dad when I say we had an absolute blast making this game. Everyone poured their hearts into this project, and we're really proud of the final product. This is my final devlog, but Eric will be here next week to deliver our post-mortem log. We hope you enjoy One More Game as much as we did making it.
